Smile with Confidence with Dental Implants

Before development of dental implants, dentures were the only alternative to replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Today, we can use dental implants made of biocompatible material like metal or ceramic to replace a missing tooth or teeth!

Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. They are anchored to the jawbone or metal framework on the bone and act as a foundation for an artificial tooth or permanent bridge. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures.

Not everyone is a candidate for a dental implant, however. For a successful implant to take hold, a candidate must have proper bone density and have a strong immune system. In all cases, dental implants require strict oral hygiene.

Implants are so well designed that they mimic the look and feel of natural teeth – making them ideal for anyone who wants to restore their smile!

Procedure

Before a dental implant procedure begins, you’ll need to have a comprehensive dental exam and a review of your medical history. These help identify if you’re a good candidate for an implant, and to make sure your dentist is aware of any complications that might arise during the procedure or aftercare period.

Installing a dental implant happens in phases, over multiple visits. Following the procedure, a period of time is required for the implant to take hold and for bone tissue to build up and anchor the device. In some cases, metal posts are inserted into the implant during a follow-up procedure to connect the tooth.

Because implants require surgery, patients are administered anesthesia and, if necessary, antibiotics to prevent infection.

FAQ

  • Do I Have to Brush Implants Like Natural Teeth?

Yes! Implants need to be cared for just like your natural teeth to help keep them strong and to keep the gum tissue around them healthy.

  • How Long to Dental Implants Last?

While dental implants aren’t susceptible to regular decay, they can still experience damage. Likewise, if the gum tissue around an implant isn’t cared for, it can cause dental health issues that may impact your implant’s lifespan.

The crown of your dental implant typically lasts 10-15 years with good care. This varies from person to person, so it’s important to stay up to date with scheduled checkups for us to keep an eye on your implant’s condition.
